An independent fork

A little about Puffin.

An independent fork and macOS port of Penguin Mail, made possible by open source.

The project

Puffin Mail is developed by Miguel Rodriguez. It began as a fork and macOS port of Penguin Mail, the open source Linux email client. Penguin Mail’s developers and contributors created the design and shared Rust engine that provided Puffin’s foundation. Their work made this project possible, and we are grateful for it.

The Mac work brings that foundation into a native AppKit interface with a WKWebView reader. Puffin is maintained as an independent project.

Puffin retains the upstream copyright notices and GPL-3.0-or-later licensing. The Linux project is acknowledged as its origin; its maintainers do not provide support for this fork. A public Puffin source link will be added when available.

A comfortable place for mail

The aim is a familiar Mac home for mail, calendars and contacts, with thoughtful organization, reading preferences and optional assistance. Reading tools include adjustments to text and spacing, read aloud, guides and subtle lines beneath the text.

Still in development
